Black Sea Port Cuisine

This spread brings together the distinctive flavors of Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. Forszmak of matias herring comes from Jewish port cuisine. Kilka is a Black Sea sprat, served at port tables for generations. This version of baba ganoush contains no tahini. Honey and bryndza are used instead. That is how it is made in Black Sea cuisine, not Lebanese.

This summer, we're serving these dishes at the Secret Room restaurant. From July 1 through July 7, eight appetizers land on the table all at once, and everyone reaches for whatever they want. The format is simple. No set order, no separate plates for each dish. Pita bread and homemade whole-grain bread are served from the kitchen along with the rest of the meal.

You can add lula kebab to any set. Choose lamb and beef, or beef only. Each appetizer can also be ordered individually with the purchase of a set. The kitchen accepts orders until June 26. Purchasing a ticket is the only way to guarantee your spot.

A Cuisine Gdańsk Doesn't Have

One table, eight dishes

With eight appetizers in the center of the table, no one ever finishes eating and has to wait for others. The table remains active throughout the entire dinner. This setup works well when people with different preferences are seated at the table. There’s no need to agree on a shared order. Everyone helps themselves to whatever they feel like.

Brick and the Motława River

Secret Room is located in a brick building by the Motława River, at 7 Stępkarska Street. Brick walls, stone arches, dim lighting. You can see the river through the windows. The tables by the windows get booked up faster. If you have a specific spot in mind, please note it in the comment field when making your reservation.

Your first encounter with Black Sea cuisine

When ordering the tasting set, you don’t need to know in advance what you like. Eight appetizers at once let you discover as you eat, rather than before ordering. You try them, go back to what you liked, and skip what doesn’t suit your taste. It’s a different approach than choosing a single unfamiliar dish from the menu and finding out on the spot if it’s a hit.

Seven days, then it’s over

The kitchen orders ingredients based on the exact number of tickets sold. After June 26, the delivery lineup is set, and the list is closed. This isn’t a menu item you can come for at any time. Entry this week without a ticket is impossible.
